No attorney-client relationship
Reading this site, building a document, downloading a file or emailing support does not create an attorney-client relationship. Our support team can help with the website and the file, not with the legal question behind it. We will not tell you whether to sign, file or serve a document.
What the templates are
Each document is assembled from clauses we wrote, with variables replaced by your answers. Every signing rule in the builder and on state pages cites the statute or state form it comes from, and that citation is printed in the document.
Every state rule in the builder names the statute or state form it comes from, and links to it where the state publishes the text online.
Laws change, and local rules differ
State statutes, court rules, county recording practices and tax rates change. A rule published on October 20, 2026 may be different today, and a city or county may add a requirement that a state statute does not mention. Before you sign, file or serve a document, confirm the current rule with the office that will accept it.
No guarantee of acceptance
We do not promise that a bank, recorder, court clerk, DMV, hospital, insurer or agency will accept a document. Those offices apply their own rules. A rejected document is a reason to check the rule and correct the form, not a conclusion that the form is useless. If a rejection causes a deadline to pass, contact an attorney right away.
High-stakes situations
Some matters should not be handled with a template and a search result: a contested estate, a foreclosure, an eviction hearing, a mortgage transfer, a tax dispute, a trust, a co-parenting dispute or a significant business deal. In those situations, the cost of an attorney is usually smaller than the cost of a document that misses a requirement.
Third-party links and tools
State pages link to statutes, state forms and agency pages for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content. A link is not an endorsement, and a state form may have changed since we linked it.
Questions
If a page appears to cite a rule incorrectly, email support@paperdeed.com with the page address and the source you are looking at. Corrections are welcome and are reviewed before the next update. For advice about your own situation, talk to a licensed attorney in your state.
